  The Gomtu Hospital initially came in to existence in mid 80s as BHU when Penden Cement factory started its operation in 1981. The Doctors and Nurses were PCAL employees then and major building structures were funded by PCAL about 70% and rest by other companies around. Still some nursing staffs are from Penden and majority of the Hospital staffs including Doctors are from Ministry of Health after the hospital was handed over to MoH some years back. The Ministry has upgraded the suteuctures and facilities in 2007 to provide better health facilities to the community. They have both OPD and Ward service for the community. Two Doctors see the patients with the nurses and support staffs. The hospital seems small but often crowded with both OPD and ward patients. They have UGG and X-ray facilities with normal lab facilities. The critical patients are referred to Samtse General Hospital or JDWNRH, Thimphu.
